Why we started Nuromi
Nuromi started in our living room in Gurgaon, sometime between Jeevika's third month and the week she discovered she could roll. JJ kept looking at the play mats available online and asking the same question: why does everything for babies look like a toy shop exploded?
She had a point. The mats were bright, loud, and - honestly - a little ugly. And the moment they arrived, the living room stopped being a room for adults. It became a nursery with a sofa in it.
We both work. We host friends. We like our home. So JJ started sketching what a mat would look like if it were designed for the room first and the baby second. Calm colours. A road pattern that feels like a storybook, not a traffic signal. Foam thick enough that a wobble and a topple is funny instead of frightening.
Then came the unglamorous year. Foam densities, fabric suppliers who did not return calls, BIS paperwork, more Amazon listing drafts than I want to count. JJ approved every design herself. Our chief product tester approved none of them verbally, but she has strong opinions expressed through drool.
That is really the whole story. No garage myth, no disruption manifesto. Two parents who wanted a calmer mat, and decided to make it properly.
If your living room is currently a nursery with a sofa in it, we made this for you.
